Theresa Gibson

Theresa Gibson, Director of Operations for North Carolina Rural Education Collaborative has a lifelong passion for supporting rural schools and supports many regional learning networks bringing school based leaders and teacher leaders together regionally in North Carolina and beyond. Theresa is also the co-founder of Leading EDge Learning, Leading EDge Learning uses an in-depth approach, partnering with schools to understand emerging problems, operationalize effective change, and elevate knowledge gained to support K-12 public schools. She supports education leaders at all levels in learning and leading change initiatives across states, regions, and locally at the district level. Working in the state of Utah to support their transition to Personalized, Competency-Based Learning, Theresa and her colleagues at Leading EDge have designed and facilitated cohort based learning programs for District Leadership Teams, School Leaders, Ed Tech Facilitators and Instructional Coaches, and Teachers. In her time at the Friday Institute for Education Innovation at NC State, Theresa played a pivotal role in the design and implementation of the statewide professional learning and leadership networks that supported the NC Digital Learning Initiative. As she joins the Office of Rural Promise, Theresa is excited to continue her work with the ETL team through the Remote Learning & Empower EDU projects and the GEAR UP team through RTLN, while continuing to grow the Rural Education Collaborative. She is also excited to work across the ORP teams on special projects to support innovation for NC. Theresa earned her B.S. in Mathematics and Mathematics Education at Buffalo State College and her MBA with a certificate in Decision Analytics at North Carolina State University.
